The electromagnetic stirrers are used in the continuous casting process to improve the product quality and to increase steel production. According to the position along the casting strand and metallurgical effects, stirrers can be classified mould, strand, and final stirrers. The benefits obtained using one or more EMS in combination include surface and sub-surface quality, internal and central soundness as segregation, porosity, and central cracks.


The key impact of mould powders on the quality of cast steel is widely recognized. Specifically, the ability to maintain constant powder thickness and stable meniscus position is essential to cast quality steel. Mould powder thickness can be controlled through closed-loop automated powder feeding. Ergolines’ Ultrasonic Level Detector (ULD) is a new sensor dedicated to the real-time measurement of mould powder thickness. Closed-loop powder thickness control is implemented by using the ULD feedback to drive an automated powder feeding machine, leading to improved steel quality and process stability. The ULD can be used either in combination with a pre-installed radiometric sensor or with Ergolines’ OPD.


We convey our sincere thanks and our appreciation to M/ s Electrotherm family for the development, realization, testing, qualification and commissioning of 10 MW power supply system for our Plasma Wind Tunnel facility. We are extremely glad that M/ s Electrotherm has taken up this challenging task, when no such system was existing in the country. We wish, we should have many more such collaborative ventures in future with M/ s Electrotherm and contribute to ISRO's futuristic advanced R&D programmes.

We have commissioned this equipments in our plant on 21st May 2018 & found performance which was committed by Electrotherm was achieved.
