Scrap Poker

Scrap Poker is used to push the scrap into the furnace during melting operation. Scrap poker is column-mounted and controlled remotely through the control desk. Solenoid controlled hydraulic system is used for boom operation which helps with maximum working range. A toothed gear slewing ring with an electric motor is used for rotation. Normally two pokers with a common hydraulic system are used for one set of induction melting systems having one Power Supply Unit and two Furnaces.


  • Boom operation for up/down & forward/backward movement by hydraulic cylinders ensuring highest pressing force on charged material.
  • The axial rotation movement of a column using a slewing bearing with a geared motor to ensure jerk-free operation.

Poker Heater
Structural components:
  • Double web fabricated robust box type design with arrangement for easy replacement of poking rod.
  • The end part is a separate component of the boom, it is easily replaceable without dismantling the complete boom.
  • Boom is with a telescopic sliding mechanism to adjust the poking road in the center of the furnace.
  • Hydraulic cylinders are capable to operate in harsh temperature conditions.
  • Easily detachable poking rod.
  • Fabricated using a high-strength steel plate.
  • Hydraulic cylinders are designed to work at high temperatures for operating boom up & down. 
  • Slewing ring with high tilting moment withstands capacity for easy movement of column ensuring high service life.
Base Frame:       
  • Fabricated using high-strength structural steel sections.
  • Sufficient base area to withstand high tilting moment.

We have commissioned this equipments in our plant on 21st May 2018 & found performance which was committed by Electrotherm was achieved. Electrotherm's project execution was extraordinary & their process understanding & support was remarkable. Looking to the performance of other equipments of other makes running within our group, we have found performance of Electrotherm make DTi Furnace to be best.
